Sonoco ( SON), one of the largest global packaging companies, today
announced that Robert Puechl, vice president and general manager, Global
Plastics, and James Harrell, vice president and general manager, North
America Industrial Carriers division, have been elected corporate
officers, according to Harris E. DeLoach, Jr., chairman, president and
chief executive officer.
Harrell is responsible for Sonoco's North American tubes and cores, wire
and cable reels and transport packaging operations, including 31
manufacturing operations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
He reports to John Colyer, vice president, Global Industrial Converting.
Harrell joined Sonoco in 1985 and has held a number of manufacturing and
management positions in the Company’s industrial converting operations
in North America and Europe. Prior to his most recent assignment,
Harrell was division vice president and general manager, Paper—North
America. He also has served as staff vice president, Global Operating
Excellence, Industrial, and division vice president of Industrials
Products and Paper – Europe. Harrell holds a B.A. degree from Francis
Marion University and an MBA from Duke University.
Puechl is responsible for Sonoco's 20 rigid plastic manufacturing
operations which includes thermoforming, injection stretch and extruded
blow molded containers and molded and extruded plastics in the United
States, Canada, Mexico, Germany and the Netherlands. He reports to Jack
Sanders, executive vice president, Consumer.
Puechl began his career with Sonoco in 1986 and has served in a variety
of manufacturing and management positions in the Company’s consumer
plastics business. Prior to his most recent assignment, Puechl was
division vice president and general manager, Molded Plastics. He also
has served as division vice president of manufacturing, High Density
Film Products. Before joining Sonoco, he worked in manufacturing with
Burlington Industries. Puechl holds a B.A. degree in economics from the
University of Georgia and an MBA from Georgia State University.
